The Rose Garden at Shore Acres State Park boasts more than 600 bushes, from fragrant tea roses to delicate miniatures. The renowned Shore Acres State Park and is well worth the $3 parking fee. For another scented plant, check out the many rhododendrons, some of which are fragrant, at Coos Bay's Mingus Park throughout May. Walk to the back of the park near the moon bridge for a visit to Choshi Garden, a Japanese garden landscape with irises, bamboo and other plantings.Rose Sunday on Father's Day, June 14, is a great time to visit the garden. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Rose experts will be there to answer questions from gardeners. Also, the Bay Area Artists Association will sponsor a Paint-Out in the Gardens. The Garden House will be open with cookies, punch and coffee.
